Here at Horizon Family Eye Care, we are dedicated to understanding color vision.

Color vision is the ability to see color. This ability allows you to see the difference in color based on the wavelengths of the light that objects reflect, emit, or transmit. Since each person’s brain distinguishes colors differently, colors can be subjective.

Colorblindness describes someone who is unable to distinguish the differences in color. There are various forms of the disease – some people have trouble differentiating between colors, while others can’t see color at all. Colorblindness affects eight percent of males and less than one percent of females.

Colorblindness can’t be cured. However, it is possible for those who suffer from the disease to live a normal life. For those who are colorblind due to another condition, taking care of the problem will help. Some people wear colored lenses to help them see color better.
